Rather than a photoshoot, for his T Magazine feature JAY-Z and the newspaper had Black and female artists paint pieces to fit the interview. This piece is titled “JAY-Z with Blue Ivy.” London-based artist Chantal Joffe is well known for her tender, gestural portraits of women and children. “I couldn’t stop painting them,” the artist says of the music mogul and his eldest child. “There was something about the juxtaposition of their two heads that was so beautiful; I don’t paint men very often, and his face—it was like a Picasso, full of planes.”
